1. Nasal endoscopy should be performed by a physician or qualified healthcare provider with appropriate training and expertise in this procedure.
2. CPT code 30520 should be reported once per encounter, regardless of the number of sinuses examined during the procedure.
3. The physician should document the reason for the nasal endoscopy, the findings, and any treatment or management plans in the patient’s medical record.
4. When performed in conjunction with a surgical procedure, such as a sinus surgery, the nasal endoscopy should not be separately reported.
5. If multiple diagnostic procedures are performed during the same encounter, only the most comprehensive procedure should be reported.
6. If the nasal endoscopy is repeated during the same encounter for a different indication or to evaluate a different area, it may be separately reported with modifier 59.
7. CPT code 30520 should not be reported for routine or screening nasal endoscopies that are not medically necessary.
