More COVID-19 Diagnosis And Procedure Codes For 2021

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had updated the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) with new COVID-19 diagnosis and procedure codes for the year 2021.

The new codes include:

  1. U09.9 – Post COVID-19 condition, unspecified
  2. U09.8 – Other specified post COVID-19 condition
  3. M35.81 – Multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS)
  4. M35.89 – Other specified systemic involvement of connective tissue
  5. M35.9 – Systemic involvement of connective tissue, unspecified
  6. Z20.822 – Contact with and (suspected) exposure to COVID-19 in other specified situations
  7. Z86.16 – Personal history of COVID-19

In addition, the CDC has provided new procedure codes to report COVID-19-related services, such as:

  1. 0212U – Infectious disease (bacterial or viral respiratory tract infection), pathogen-specific RNA, 7 targets including SARS-CoV-2, amplified probe technique
  2. 87426 – Infectious agent detection by nucleic acid (DNA or RNA); severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (Coronavirus disease [COVID-19]), amplified probe technique

It’s important to note that these codes are subject to change as new information about COVID-19 emerges.
