AMA issues codes for pending Novavax vaccine: COVID update
As of my knowledge cutoff in 2021, the American Medical Association (AMA) had not yet issued any new codes for the pending Novavax COVID-19 vaccine. However, it’s possible that new codes may be issued once the vaccine is authorized for use by the FDA and becomes available.
The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is a protein subunit vaccine that is currently under review by the FDA for emergency use authorization (EUA). If authorized, the vaccine would be the fourth COVID-19 vaccine available in the United States, following the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
When a new vaccine or medical treatment is authorized or approved, it’s common for new codes to be issued to facilitate tracking and reporting of the treatment. It’s important for healthcare providers and facilities to stay up-to-date on any new codes or coding changes to ensure accurate and appropriate billing and reporting of medical services.
